About CV Calculations

The CV (flow coefficient) is a multiplier used to quantify valve flow performance. It accounts for all orifices and restrictions through the valve, providing system designers with a single value to predict pressure drops or flow rates.

Gas flow can become choked when its velocity reaches the speed of sound. Different formulas are used depending on whether the flow is choked or unchoked.

Formula Explanations

Qm:Discharge Capacity (SCFM)
Pi:Valve Inlet Pressure (PSIA)
Po:Valve Outlet Pressure (PSIA)
Sg:Specific Gravity of Gas
T:Inlet Gas Temperature (°R)
